Innovation

Innovation should be at the center of long-term strategies for both companies and governments in Cyprus as well as throughout Europe.

Nevertheless, despite occasional efforts, the Cypriot state has failed miserably to create an environment that supports innovation.

Providing incentives for the creation of ideas and knowledge in the Cypriot economy is of utmost importance for rejuvenating economic and social development through innovative initiatives.

To achieve this, Volt proposes, among other things:

  • Facilitating and improving the flow of information and knowledge from academic institutions and their applied research to the private sector.

  • Creating and supporting connected research facilities and innovation hubs.

  • Supporting efforts in the development of fiber-optic networks, public and free WiFi, and public cloud.

  • Creating connected institutes to promote collaboration between the academic and private sectors.

  • Supporting and funding pan-European research in key areas.

  • Facilitating the acquisition of expert visas.

  • Prioritizing improvements in digital infrastructure and setting standards for open data to meet the future needs of the private sector and the public.

  • Reforming and strengthening patent laws.

  • Promoting a European artificial intelligence initiative.
