As Volt in Cyprus we express our concern about the situation in the neighbouring Gaza Strip and stress that there must be an immediate ceasefire. The huge humanitarian aid that needs to be sent to Gaza to relieve the civilian population should not be obstructed. Violence breeds violence and the boundaries of 'self-defence' must not be crossed.

After the condemnable crimes of the terrorist Hamas, we are witnessing other unacceptable events. The Netanyahu government, by killing thousands of civilians, the majority of whom are women and children, is not succeeding in eliminating Hamas. It is only succeeding in sustaining hatred and creating the terrorists of the future, perpetuating danger and insecurity for the people of Israel itself.

As Volt, we hope that the leaders of the region will find the courage to break the cycle of violence and will begin - even now - to take steps towards a new era of peace and reconciliation.

Terörist Hamas'ın işlediği menfur suçların ardından kabul edilemez birçok olaylara da tanık oluyoruz. Netanyahu hükümeti çoğu kadın ve çocuk olmak üzere binlerce sivilin ölümüne sebep olurken Hamas'ı yok etmeyi başaramıyor. Başardığı tek şey nefretin devamı, geleceğin teröristlerinin yaratılmasının devamı, İsrail halkının maruz kaldığı tehlikelerin ve güvensizliğin devamıdır.

Volt olarak bölge liderlerinin bu şiddet döngüsünü kıracak cesareti bulmalarını ve şimdi de olsa yeni bir barış ve uzlaşıya doğru adımlar atmaya başlamalarını umuyoruz.
