15 January 2025 - Volt files complaint over Ministry of Justice's declaration
In recent days, there has been a great deal of uproar over the announcement by the Ministry of Justice and Public Order regarding the new procedure it intends to implement in relation to the payment of fines imposed using the traffic cameras of Conduent Inc.

We find it deeply concerning the ease with which a foreign, international company has been granted the right to have simultaneous access to 3 important records of the Republic of Cyprus: the Population Record, the TOM Record and the Registrar of Companies Record. In addition, by connecting each person to their website, they possibly gain access to personal phone numbers and/or email addresses
We will therefore proceed to file a complaint with the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection, so that she can examine the following issues that arise:
Has Conduent Inc. obtained permission to manage the personal data of the Population Registry and the TOM Archive?
Has this company been given permission to upload all this data to an online platform?
Has the security of this data been ensured, both in the internal use process they have had to date and in the processing they undergo on the online platform? Is the European Acquis of the GDPR complied with?
The Office of the Commissioner has at times refused to interconnect the records of the Republic of Cyprus, considering that it is not in the public interest to have unhindered access to such databases, despite the potential benefits that such access would provide to specific state institutions and faster access to digital governance processes. Has the Office's consent been given to simultaneous access to the Population Record, the Record of the Department of Road Transport and the Record of the Registrar of Companies on an open platform on the internet?
Furthermore, we will support the efforts at the level of the House of Representatives to immediately end the violation of the existing legislation and to revoke the arbitrary decision of the government to burden each citizen with the responsibility of checking if the Road Safety Law has been violated and a relevant fine has been issued.
We emphasize that we explicitly support the tightening of the traffic code for the effectiveness of protecting citizens on the roads. However, this cannot allow the exposure of their personal data, potentially exposing them to other risks.
