Society is boiling over with incidents of corruption and the cover-up of scandals

The intention of the Anti-Corruption Authority not to announce the findings of the investigation into what was revealed in the book ‘Mafia State’ by Makarios Drousiotis does not align with democratic principles and the right to informatio

We fully respect the Anti-Corruption Authority and all the institutions of the Republic of Cyprus, as their independence and credibility constitute a cornerstone of the rule of law.

However, linking the announcement of the findings to the parliamentary elections can only cause concern. Transparency is not a concession; it is a requirement. The title of the head of the Anti-Corruption Authority is Commissioner for Transparency, and that is how they must act.

Announcing the results of an investigation that lasted two years and concerns such serious matters is an obligation, not undue interference.

Volt Cyprus demands that the outcome of the investigation be announced, whatever it may be, before the elections.

Elections are the highest democratic process. Before going to the ballot box to vote, citizens must be informed, especially when it concerns issues of enormous public interest.
