VOLT expresses its sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Dinos Mavropoulos and wishes his partner, who remains hospitalized due to the injuries she sustained, a speedy recovery.
His contribution to public life in our country is indisputable, as was evident from the outpouring of condolences across social media from the moment news of his death became known.
As a political party, however, we must raise questions as to why the life of one of our fellow citizens was lost in this manner. The Meteorological Service had issued an orange weather warning, while the media had been informing the public of the serious risks posed by the storm forecast to hit our island on Saturday, 29 August 2026. Which competent authorities were responsible for warning boat owners and operators not to set sail?
We will continue to press the competent authorities for answers and await further information from the Cyprus Police, which has confirmed that it is duly investigating the matter.
