The UN Secretary-General has announced his intention to convene a five-party conference, provided that both sides demonstrate progress on confidence-building measures (CBMs) and methodological matters.
This announcement opens a window of opportunity. However, there is a real risk that the process could derail before it even begins if both sides fail to make the necessary preparatory progress.
Volt calls on both leaders to show the courage needed to break the deadlock, free from fear and rigid formalism. They can be assured of our full support if they rise to the occasion and meet the demands of this historic moment.
Mr. Guterres also stressed that, by resolving its long-standing problem, Cyprus can become a pillar of stability in a region marked by growing instability. However, if it fails to do so, the consequences will be disastrous for all Cypriots. We hope that everyone recognises the gravity and importance of this moment.
