10 March 2025 - Quality education is a right!
Volt welcomes the recent positive development for the construction of the East Limassol Regional High School. This development is a result of the dynamic mobilisation of parents and the pressure exerted by the local community.

However, we remain cautious as the current government and the Minister of Education had previously cancelled, without sufficient explanation, a project that had already been approved and included in the state budget, with state land allocated for its construction.
We would expect more immediate and effective decisions from the government to reinstate the project in the budget. We express our concern that the process of drafting a new Project Note may further delay the implementation of the school, as it seems that the process is starting again from scratch.
We call on the government and the relevant ministries to immediately respond to the following questions, which have already been sent through Volt MP, Ms. Alexandra Attalidou:
Is there an intention by the Ministry of Finance to include the project in the 2026 budget or the 2025 supplementary budget, in order to ensure its immediate funding?
Has a study and planning been carried out for the necessary road accesses and other relevant infrastructure, in order to ensure the smooth operation of the school?
Volt will continue to closely monitor developments and support the parents' associations and the local community in their demands, which under normal circumstances would be self-evident. Education is a pillar of social progress and the delay of such an important project jeopardizes the right of the students of the area to quality education and decent school facilities.
The government must immediately assume its responsibilities and proceed without further delay with the implementation of this crucial project for East Limassol.
