Children's Day 2023
World Children's Day 2023 serves as a reminder to all states and organizations that no society has a future unless it ensures that every child has the opportunity to learn, develop, and thrive in a safe and supportive environment.
This year's theme, "For Every Child, Every Right," is dedicated to the European Union's full commitment to supporting children in developing their abilities as dedicated, responsible citizens.
We will work hard to promote their participation in democratic life, starting from childhood. All children have the right to express their opinions on matters that concern them and be taken into consideration. To activate their effective participation, we must first work against poverty, inequalities, and discrimination that threaten them. It is crucial to finally break the intergenerational cycle of inequalities that jeopardize our societies.
Child poverty sounds the alarm, urging us to act immediately. According to Eurostat data, 25% of children in the EU and 18% in Cyprus live below the poverty line.
Volt Cyprus believes that children's rights are human rights, and we will serve them with determination. We stand by all children in Cyprus, Europe, and the world because they deserve a peaceful childhood, a hopeful future, sufficient care and protection, and the full enjoyment of their rights. We refuse to accept that 18% of Cyprus's children will live on the margins of poverty and inequality.
