Volt Cyprus, the new, dynamic, political party in the political scene of Cyprus, was introduced to the Cypriot society today through an extensive press conference held at the Journalists' House.

The event was jointly organised by the movements "New Wave - Another Cyprus" and "Famagusta for Cyprus", which join forces with a number of active citizens in a common effort for change, reunification, transparency and modernisation of the state. The newly formed party is a member of the pan-European, progressive, pragmatic movement Volt Europa which is active in over 30 European countries and aims at a united, democratic and federal Europe of equal opportunities and rights.

With its foundation, Volt Cyprus is here to house citizens on the basis of common principles and values: Europeanism, bicommunalism, ecology and modernisation. Its priority is to find a just and viable solution to the Cyprus problem, on the basis of a Bi-zonal Bicommunal Federation with political equality, fighting for a united Cyprus in a united Europe. At the same time, it demands a more inclusive society, a sustainable and green Cyprus, a proud Cyprus. It stands against populism, non-transparency, old partisanship and all forms of racism and totalitarianism.

The presentation presented the 5+1 challenges of Volt for each European country individually and for Europe as a whole:

  1. Smart State: Progressive policies for efficient public services, health, justice and education with training and digitalisation at the core

  2. Economic Renaissance: Innovation and technology are driving forces for social progress and economic growth. Common policies within the EU for sustainability, employment and a single tax system

  3. Social equality: Equality for all regardless of gender, income, religion, origin. Anti-discrimination policies, free education and respect for human rights

  4. Global Balance: Promotion of policies compatible with the UN goals of sustainable development and environmental protection. Policies for the fair treatment and distribution of migration flows, the protection of refugees and an end to statelessness

  5. Citizen empowerment: strengthening citizens' participation in politics beyond their participation in elections

5+1. EU reform: policies for a strong, democratic and federal European Union with common defence, foreign, economic and social policies.

On behalf of Volt Europa, the co-president of Volt Europa Francesca Romana D'Antouono attended the event online, expressing her great pleasure for the establishment of Volt Cyprus as an equal member of Volt Europa.

The founding, statutory and electoral congress of Volt Cyprus will take place on Sunday 3 December 2023 at the "Filoxenia" Conference Centre. On the website of Volt www.voltcyprus.org you will find all the necessary information.
