11 June 2025 - Harassment of press officers unacceptable

Volt condemns the sudden summoning of journalists to the TAE Headquarters, for broadcasts that hosted statements by the former Auditor General, Odysseas Michaelides. While we recognise and note the responsibility that comes with public speech, the event reveals once again the dangerous turn towards authoritarianism on the part of the Ministry of Justice and the Police.

The involvement of journalists in interrogations for publicly available content is unthinkable and undermines the freedom of the press. Volt will not tolerate any attempt to intimidate media officers.

At the same time, we do not ignore the fact that the Attorney General bears a heavy responsibility for the lack of trust and the public's disdain for institutions. Democracy and society cannot tolerate any more cracks in the credibility of institutions and it would be disastrous for such a serious case to be handled in a way that leaves room for ulterior motives. Volt, recognising the political weight of the issue, will closely monitor the Legal Service's movements.
