13 April 2025 - Every Easter, the same thing.

Every Easter, the same thing. A bill on bonfires that appears just before Easter, and disappears the next day — as if it were part of the custom itself. For another year, the crucial issue of public safety and social responsibility remains on paper.

The truth is simple: bonfires are a dangerous custom, just like firecrackers. Not "bad", not "religious", but dangerous. Lives and property are at risk every year. And yet, the state continues to manage it with half-measures, sloppiness and fearful of going against "tradition". If a custom requires patrol cars, ambulances and fire engines to be observed, it ceases to be a custom.

There is no excuse for failing to submit a realistic, workable and adequately prepared bill in a timely manner. The Parliament and the relevant Ministries cannot be taken by surprise every April by the same issue.

Volt supports the gradual transition to strict regulation of the lighting of bonfires in specific areas with approval and supervision. With the aim of preserving our traditions without risking human lives.

Customs evolve. And so do we. Let us choose to evolve — before another person is lost, before another house burns down. We will not engage in vote-hunting politics with ashes. If the state cannot protect its citizens from a "custom", then it has failed. And we will say it as loudly as necessary.
