14 April 2025 - The Israeli government violated the cease fire. Europe needs to acknowledge Israel’s responsibility to bring forth true peace in Gaza.
The Palestinians in Gaza are “trapped, bombed and starved” according to a statement signed by 7 UN Organisations. Since early March, no trade or humanitarian aid has entered Gaza. In just the last week, more than 1000 children have been killed or wounded, the highest number of child deaths in a week during this year.

This is unacceptable! But the response of most European states and of the EU are infuriatingly brief and coupled with total inaction. Europe needs to take initiative to put pressure on the Israeli government to stop.
What must Europe do?
The EU must contribute to the termination of illegal and violent actions from today’s extreme Israeli government, as will as from Hamas, especially now that UN reports document that Israel is committing genocide. The International Court of Human Rights, with the opinion it issued in 2024, also acknowledges that the occupation of Palestinian land is systemic discrimination and violates article 3 of the International Convention for the Eradication of all forms of racial discrimination, including racial segregation and apartheid policies. The illegal Israeli occupation of Palestinian land also obstructs the creation of a legal and efficient Palestinian State.
We also need to support democratic civil society movements in cooperation with Israeli and Palestinians that are fighting for their right to self-determination, democracy and state of law. The EU needs to contribute to the defence of International Law and respect of Human Rights We believe that the EU and the 27 member states could utilise their economic and political influence in order to bring Netanyahu to the table of negotiations.
Israeli and Palestinians deserve to live in security and every human being has the rights deriving from International Law. The road to true safety for all goes through a permanent cease fire, the return of all hostages from both parties and a sustainable peace that will include normalisation of regional relations. A solution can only to be based on the UN Security Council Resolutions.
Specific steps to be taken by the EU and it’s member states:
Support and enforce the arrest warrants of the International Criminal Court issued for the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu and the ex-minister of Défense Yoav Gallant.
To act on article 2 of the Charted of Human Rights and suspend the Eu-Israel Trade Union until Isreal ceases it’s occupation of Palestinian land, respects international (humanitarian) law and enforces the decisions and opinions of the ICC and the International Court of Human Rights.
Enforce a full embargo of weapons and military technology until a permanent cease fire is achieved.
Immediately enforce travel bans and personal financial sanctions against officials like the Minister of Internal Security Itamar Ben-Gvir and the Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotritz for violations of human rights, as well as Israeli officials and individuals that participated in illegal settling policies.
Enforce a pan-european restriction to the import of items produced in Palestinian areas that have been settled illegally by Israelis.
Act immediately for the international recognition and support for the creation of an independent Palestinian State, free from terrorists, with an efficient, democratic and legal government, based on a strong constitution, the capacity to offer services to it’s citizens and establish international relations.
Defend the ICC and the International Court of Human Rights against coercion and bullying, activating the «blocking statute» of the EU, that restricts businesses that are based in the EU to comply with the sanctions against the ICC from Third Countries (such as the USA) that have extraterritorial powers.
Offer financial aid to civil society organisations that are striving for a just solution to the Middle East Problem and the defence of democracy, human rights and the Rule of Law in Israel, especially with those that have been jointly created by Israeli and Palestinians.
