17 April 2025 - Volt defends the obvious: Peace is the path to a solution
The “Breaths of Peace” event, a bi-communal music event organized under the auspices of the Mayor of Limassol on 25 April, aims to bring people together, not to legitimise regimes. Following the public statements made by members of DIKO, the Limassol municipal group of DISY and the entirety of EDEK, Volt considers it necessary to take a position.

To DIKO: Presenting every bi-communal initiative as a plan for “exploitation” by the other side directly undermines the prospect of peace. For DIKO, Turkish Cypriots are a threat, while for us, cooperation and coexistence are prerequisites for a truly united Cyprus.
To DISY: The references to “non-approval of the Municipal Council” for an event of cooperation and culture sound more like pretexts than institutional objections. When cultural events are targeted due to the participation of Turkish Cypriots, then we lose the meaning of culture.
To EDEK: It is dangerous to demonise the co-organization of events with Turkish Cypriot local governance authorities. Nothing is “legitimised” when we cooperate with people who desire reunification, dialogue and a common path for an island without occupying armies. Refusing any contact simply leads us deeper into nationalism and isolation.
Volt unwaveringly supports bicommunal cooperation as the only way to build the foundations for a common future. While the President of the Republic is in a new round of efforts to restart negotiations, opposition and coalition parties are uniting, reacting to actions that they should naturally support. Political forces that supposedly support reunification efforts based on the agreed framework, in practice oppose everything that brings the people of the island closer.
For Volt, there is no hesitation. The reunification of Cyprus will not happen with silence, introversion and exclusion. It will only happen through courage, cooperation and trust
Working for peace is not a threat.
It is the only option for the security and well-being of all Cypriots.
