21 February 2025 - Katsounotos' promotion hits the police again and leaves the Government exposed
The decision of the Minister of Justice to promote a senior officer of the Force to the position of Assistant Chief of Police, who is allegedly under disciplinary investigation for various serious cases, sends the wrong messages to society, seriously exposing both the minister himself and the government.

At a time when public trust in the Police is collapsing, a person who played a leading role in cases involving serious allegations of possible criminal offenses, which were never brought to court for adjudication, but were closed opaquely, with the Attorney General invoking the clause of protecting the public interest, cannot be appointed to such a crucial position.
At the same time, every effort by the police leadership and its political superior to convince that there is zero tolerance for corruption within the police force is being undermined.
At Volt, we work to promote the principles of transparency and accountability. This appointment, however, sends the message that the government's much-publicized announcements on this matter are nothing more than empty communication proclamations, without any tangible results. Today, when democracy is under threat, protecting the credibility of institutions must be our first concern because states collapse when their institutions collapse.
