22 February 2025 - About the Imagine program
Volt supports any initiative that promotes cooperation, peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding between the two communities in Cyprus. The Imagine program, which has been implemented since 2016 with the agreement of the Republic of Cyprus and the Turkish Cypriot leadership, is an important educational action that cultivates the values of peace, respect and cooperation among students.
We recall that the Turkish Cypriot leader, Ersin Tatar, strongly opposed the Imagine program, precisely because it promotes coexistence and goes against divisive and intolerant narratives. The existence of such reactions proves the importance of the program and its role in building a common future for all Cypriots.
Despite recent attacks and misinformation, the reality is that families voluntarily choose to participate in the program and educational visits. The state does not impose or force students to participate in these activities, but simply informs and facilitates those who wish to do so.
Volt condemns the attempt to poison public discourse with lies and divisive rhetoric. Forces that oppose reconciliation seek to maintain division and undermine any sincere attempt at rapprochement. As a progressive political force, we emphasize that true patriotism is not measured by nationalist crowns, but by actions that promote cooperation, democracy and dialogue.
