22 May 2025 - Public universities do not need restrictions, they need prospect
The situation with foreign language programs in public universities has reached its limits. The same issue has been discussed for ten years without result. The need for substantive decisions is now imperative.

Volt clearly supports offering free foreign language programs by public universities, without caps, without bureaucratic obstacles and without artificial conditions. There is no logical argument for Cyprus to continue holding back its universities, when the whole of Europe is moving forward.
The restrictions that are proposed, such as 20% of foreign language programs in all programs or the minimum number of students, are pretentious. They do not protect anything – they simply prolong inertia and prevent development. Universities need space to develop, not surveillance.
The responsibility now belongs to the state. If we want competitive public universities, with international appeal and a substantial contribution to research and the economy, we must allow them to do so. Nothing less.
