7 May 2025 - Volt Europa: On the side of all Cypriots against Ankara’s interventions

In contrast to the empty resolutions for internal consumption and big words, Volt, with its real pan-European network, promotes the interests of Cypriots. Following briefings and information from Volt Cyprus, Volt Europe MEP Kai Tegethoff publicly stated his position regarding the recent protests that took place last Saturday in the occupied areas.

Our Turkish Cypriot compatriots expressed their opposition to the visit of Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the inauguration of the new “presidential palace”.

Mr. Tegethoff was present as an observer at the protests where, as he stated, he was an eyewitness to Turkey’s attempt to violate the political will of the Turkish Cypriots. “Ankara’s attempt to limit the voice and rights of Turkish Cypriots is clear,” he noted, stressing the importance of international attention to the issue.

The MEP also underlined that Volt Europa stands in practice alongside Volt Cyprus, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, supporting in every way the efforts for cooperation, independence and reunification of the island.

“Cyprus deserves a common European future, based on mutual respect, democracy and equality of all its communities,” he said.

As Volt, we will continue to build bridges, and through our pan-European network we support that security, prosperity and prospects for all the people of Cyprus are only guaranteed through a federal solution to the Cyprus problem.
