Cyprus of 2024 back in 1984
The previous ones also did political favours, but they kept up the pretence by appointing members of the opposition parties, thus consciously maintaining the balance in the old party and clientelistic system.
The current ones, however, have surpassed even their old selves. After presenting the Advisory Council to the Cypriot people as the reform route to transparency in the appointments of semi-public bodies, after dragging thousands of scientists through the application process, they have set up an entirely legalistic body for sorting out their most loyal friends, relatives, supporters and applauders who will manage the country's public wealth from tomorrow.
For those of our fellow citizens who are falling from the clouds, we would like to remind them that Nikos Christodoulides stood for the presidential elections as the representative of the new, the moral, the modern, the unbiased, but with his every political act he proves that he is the ideal successor of the school of thought that wants the state to be the pawn of the rulers of the day, a mentality that stubbornly keeps Cyprus trapped in the past.
Our position is that the future of Cyprus is in the hands of its citizens. In the upcoming elections, modern, progressive, bicommunal and European Cyprus will turn its back on the client state and will give its answer by voting for Volt.
