Respect for the taxpayer - we say NO to unreasonable benefits.
Legislative proposal by MP Alexandra Attalides that restricts excessive benefits enjoyed by former Presidents of the Parliament and the Republic
Member of Parliament of Volt Cyprus, Alexandra Attalidou, has submitted a legislative proposal that restricts excessive benefits enjoyed by former Presidents of the Parliament and the Republic, costing taxpayers hundreds of thousands of euros.
According to the legislation, former Presidents, after 30 months of service, are entitled to a state limousine with a driver-police officer, with all transportation and maintenance expenses covered, along with a special secretary allowance amounting to €36,228 annually.
The public finds it at least provocative, while many fellow citizens struggle daily to make ends meet, burdened with these expenses themselves.
Among other things, Attalidou's legislative proposal suggests:
Reducing the duration of benefits from an indefinite period to 5 years.
Determining the special secretary's salary from the initial grades of the salary scale A2-A5-A7 instead of the one specified in the existing law. This significantly reduces the remuneration.
