Alexander Apostolides is a researcher at the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance (CCAF) and European University Cyprus, specialising in the MENA-Mediterranean region and global regulatory responses to fintech innovation. He previously served as Economics and EU Officer at the British High Commission in Nicosia (until 2020) and was Assistant Professor of Economic History and Chair of the Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics at European University Cyprus until 2018. His work has involved collaboration with international organisations including the European Commission, the World Bank, UNHCR, and Transparency International, and he has served as a member of Cyprus's National Economic Council (2013-2017).

Educated in Economics and History at Durham University, with an MSc and PhD in Economic History from the London School of Economics, Alexander has dedicated his career to education, research, and public service. Influenced by his parents' role in founding the Cyprus Dyslexia Association, he was the first person in Cyprus formally recognised as dyslexic following special education reforms and remains active in civil society and NGO work. He is deeply committed to peacebuilding in Cyprus, having published jointly with Turkish Cypriot scholars on peace economics, and previously led the EU Green Line one-stop shop initiative to support intercommunal trade.
