Despo Pavlou is a strong voice for inclusion, equality, and social progress. After a successful three-decade career as an entrepreneur, she transitioned into writing, transforming lived experience, creativity, and resilience into work that challenges stereotypes and fosters empathy across cultures. The internationally acclaimed author of ‘My Kind of Normal', Despo is widely recognised for her honest and courageous storytelling on LGBTQ+ lives and human dignity. Openly gay for over twenty years, she has lived in both South Africa and Cyprus, gaining a broad, international perspective on social justice, diversity, and community building. Deeply familiar with both the Cypriot diaspora and repatriated communities, Despo understands the gaps and needs that exist between them and mainstream society.
With roots in Yialousa and Rizokarpaso and now based in Paphos, she remains closely connected to local realities while advocating for policies that protect human rights, strengthen social cohesion, and ensure equal opportunities for all. She stands for a modern, inclusive Cyprus, one that values evidence-based policy, respects individuality, and embraces its place in a progressive Europe. She has embarked on her political journey guided by courage, authenticity, and a commitment to people, and stories, that matter.
