Makarios Drousiotis was born in 1959 in Moniatis and is a Cypriot investigative journalist and author, known for his long-standing involvement with the contemporary history and politics of Cyprus. He studied at the London College of Communication and worked for decades in journalism, collaborating with major media outlets in Cyprus and Greece. His writing includes numerous books examining historical, political and social issues, several of which have been translated into foreign languages.

In the early 2010s, he became actively involved in politics, initially participating in Nicos Anastasiades' presidential campaign and then serving as his special advisor. He resigned in 2014 and later worked in Brussels as an associate of European Commissioner Christos Stylianides. In the following years, he became very active in public life, focusing on issues of transparency and corruption, which were also the main themes of his recent books and speeches.

He has been honoured with international awards for his contribution to press freedom and investigative journalism, while remaining active in the public debate on the rule of law and democratic accountability. In 2024, he returned to active politics as a candidate with Volt Cyprus, promoting the need for institutional reforms, transparency and the strengthening of European values.
