My name is Savvas Pavlou. I was born on 21 April - a signi ficant date - in 1972 in Nicosia. My parents are Constantinos (Dinos) Pavlou, a retired physics, chemistry and biology teacher who worked at the Kykkos Boys' High School and later at the A.T.I. (Higher Technological Institute) in Strovolos, and the late Clementine Pavlou (née Lazaridi), a former nurse who worked at Nicosia General Hospital and Makarios Hospital, from Achna. My roots through my grandparents go back to Palometocho, Platanistasa, Lefkoniko and Achna.
I grew up in Agios Dometios, in the neighbourhood where the Municipal Hall is located. My education began at Agios Andreas Primary School, then at Kykkos C' Gymnasium (now Engomi Gymnasium) and finally at Kykkos A' Lyceum, where I graduated from the Economics department.
I did my military service in the SMEF (Military Music Band of the National Guard) and on the green line at the Tsakistras Camp guard posts. I began my studies in Vienna, where I learned German, specialising in Hotel Management, and completed them in the United States, in the state of Hawaii, specialising in Marketing.
I worked in companies in the food and FMCG sectors until I was won over by the aluminium industry, a sector in which I still work today. My hobbies are sports, heavy metal and hard rock music, reading books on Cypriot and world history, and cooking. I play the clarinet, saxophone and drums, and in my teenage years I was a member of the heavy metal band DISASTER. I was a track and field athlete at GSP in the 100m, 400m and pole vault events, I was a key member of the Kykkos C High School volleyball team, which won the Pancyprian High School Championship undefeated, and one of the first members of the FEATHERS Club in the then emerging sport of badminton. I was a member of the OMONOIA Nicosia Sports Club and have been a season ticket holder for 26 consecutive years. I watch all home games from the stadium. I am married and have two daughters.
